Russian Railways, MasterCard and Alfa-Bank launch card for contactless payment

RZDRussian Railways (RZD), MasterCard and Alfa-Bank have launched a contactless payment card connected to the Russian Railways loyalty program, announced Deputy Director General of “Federal passenger company” (FPC, “daughter” RZD), Dmitry Gorbatov.

“From December 10, any passenger can contact the offices of the Bank and to issue a joint MasterCard, Russian Railways, Alfa-Bank,” Gorbatov said at the weeks press briefing.

MasterCard spokesman for Russia, CIS, Central and South-Eastern Europe Alexey Malinovsky explained that making purchases and travel arrangements allowed the card user to accumulate points, which can then be exchanged for further train journeys.

Head of unit “Retail business” Alfa-Bank Mikhail Povaly added that the program will be offered to standard, gold and platinum credit cards and debit cards holders. According to Povaly, expectations are that more than 7000 new customers per month will take advantage of the program.

Loyalty program “Russian Railways bonus” is valid since July 2012 and already allows users to accumulate travel points for journeys completed on the FPC. Currently the program has registered about 1.5 million passengers.
