Giesecke & Devrient become a GSMA “Mobile Connect Technology Vendor”

mobile connectGiesecke & Devrient has been accredited to be a “Mobile Connect Technology Vendor” for its LicentioID solution by the GSMA. Designation as a “Mobile Connect Technology Vendor” confirms that a supplier is compliant with major elements of the GSMA’s Mobile Connect solution. G&D’s end-to-end solution LicentioID covers both the service back-end and the Mobile Device and SIM based applet.

With Mobile Connect-compliant LicentioID from G&D, Mobile Network Operators (MNO) are able to provide “Authentication-as-a-Service” in the future, thus extending their portfolio to user authentication. “Due to the increasing connectivity in our societies, consumers and users are dealing with the problem of too many identities and, as a consequence, too many passwords. With Mobile Connect and LicentioID, consumers can access multiple web applications under one identity, using one password,” explained Carsten Ahrens, Head of the Telecommunication Industries division at G&D. “Recognizing this, we have been a contributor to GSMA’s Mobile Connect initiative from the start.”

Mobile Connect-based authentication also supports authentication at multiple customer touchpoints such as self-service portals and call centers, thus “enabling a truly unified customer experience which is also secure and convenient”, said Ahrens. In addition to authentication, in future consumers will be able to use Mobile Connect to have their age or postal address confirmed by their MNO when required by web services, which will facilitate web based transactions such as e-commerce.
